Our take on the Centauri Carbon
The Centauri Carbon was Elegoo's first CoreXY and one of the most affordable enclosed printers in our catalogue, tied on MSRP with its successor. It offers 256 × 256 × 256 mm, a hardened-steel nozzle up to 320 °C, a 110 °C bed and a camera, so it can print ABS, ASA and fibre-filled filaments with the door shut.
The must-make comparison is the Centauri Carbon 2, which raises the nozzle to 350 °C and is ready for Elegoo's CANVAS multicolour system (sold separately). If colour doesn't interest you, the original is still the straightforward choice; if it does, also look at the Creality K2, enclosed and with CFS.
What it lacks: any multicolour system, and the chamber is enclosed but not actively heated, so the most demanding materials, like large polycarbonate or nylon parts, remain tough ground. It weighs about 17.5 kg. We have a longer analysis against its rivals.

What materials can the Centauri Carbon print?
This comes from four facts on its spec sheet: the nozzle reaches 320 °C, the bed 110 °C, and the machine is enclosed with a direct-drive extruder. Those four facts decide most of the list: nozzle temperature sets the ceiling on what you can melt, the bed decides whether the first layer sticks, the enclosure keeps large parts from warping, and the extruder type rules flexibles. We don't test the machine — this is guidance derived from verified data, not a guarantee.
In short: it prints PLA, PETG, TPU (flexible), ABS, ASA, Nylon (PA), Policarbonato (PC) without a fight.
| Material | Prints it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| PLA | Yes | Yes. PLA has no special needs: any FDM printer like the Centauri Carbon prints it out of the box. |
| PETG | Yes | Yes. With a nozzle up to 320 °C and a bed up to 110 °C it comfortably meets PETG's needs. |
| TPU (flexible) | Yes | Yes. It has a direct-drive extruder, ideal for flexibles; prints TPU well (go slow). |
| ABS | Yes | Yes. Nozzle up to 320 °C and an enclosure: it contains ABS's warping and fumes. |
| ASA | Yes | Yes. Nozzle up to 320 °C and an enclosure: it contains ASA's warping and fumes. |
| Nylon (PA) | Yes | Yes. It reaches 320 °C and is enclosed: it prints Nylon (dry it well first). For carbon-fibre variants, use a hardened-steel nozzle. |
| Policarbonato (PC) | Yes | Yes. Nozzle up to 320 °C and an enclosure: suitable for PC. For carbon-fibre variants, use a hardened-steel nozzle. |
