Over-extrusion (blobs and fat edges)
Also known as: the part comes out with blobs, oversized dimensions and bulging corners.
The symptom
Rough surfaces with excess plastic, bulging corners, fat seams and outer dimensions that measure oversized. The infill may 'clack' as the nozzle drags through surplus material.
Causes and fixes, ranked by likelihood

Extrusion multiplier / flow too high: the slicer pushes more plastic than each line can hold.
Fix: Calibrate flow with a single-wall cube: if the theoretical 0.45 mm wall measures 0.50, drop the multiplier by that ~10%. Most profiles land between 0.92 and 1.0.

Wrong filament diameter configured (slicer at 1.75 mm but the spool measures 1.70, or leftovers from a 2.85 profile).
Fix: Measure the real filament with calipers at 3-4 spots and enter the average in the slicer. A 3% diameter error is a 6% flow error.

Temperature too high: the plastic flows so freely it oozes and drools at corners and seams.
Fix: Drop 5-10 °C and enable/tune retraction. A temperature tower finds the sweet spot in a single print.

FAQ
- Are oversized dimensions always over-extrusion?
- Not always: elephant foot fattens only the base, and a loose belt distorts along one axis. If the WHOLE part measures uniformly big, then yes: flow or diameter.
- Is per-filament flow calibration worth it?
- Yes, once per brand/material: two 'identical' spools can vary by 5%. Fifteen minutes that fix both over- and under-extrusion.
